If you are looking for a horse that’s easy to to catch, chill with everything and everyone and loves to enjoy a long trail ride, down the road or out in the field that’s what she loves. She has a big walk and is happy to lead or follow. She will push cows… or Kids can climb all over her and she doesn’t care . If she’s out in the field you can hop on her and ride her in with just the halter and lead rope.
Cali is an easy keeper but not one to get obese if not worked. She can sit for months, then go out and catch her and hop right on without a second thought. Ties, washes, loads, clips, etc… with ease. Great with her feet, I’ve even used a grinder to bevel edges after a trim and she never flinched.
Over the last few years she has been my go to for some friends and family with limited to no experience riding. This year I have a young man that started helping at the barn that is friends with my kids. I’ve given him some lessons on her and haven’t thought twice about letting him take her out trail riding with my kids several times a week because I know she will take care of him.
If not worked for a while she may be a little stiff when you first get on her but she loosens up and moves right out after a little bit.
This all said Cali is available because I have gotten enough of my other horses under saddle now that I don’t need her. We raise Clydesdales and with 30+ head of them and trying to manage horse numbers while breeding, she’s at the top of the list. I’m not desperate to sell her and want to find her the right fit. When asked She has the buttons and knowledge from more advanced arena work training but I feel that at some point someone burned her out on it. She will do it but she honestly does not love it and gets extremely lazy and unmotivated when you push it…so if you want her as your kids 4H horse, that is not for this mare. She’s an excellent option for a kid or an adult that wants to go out and enjoy a good ride but she doesn’t want to be an arena horse and I won’t send her down that road.
